Cattleya velutina is a rare find in cultivation, prized for its glossy, heavy-textured flowers. The blooms are a striking reddish-yellow to brown, covered in deep maroon-purple spots and radiating purple lines. The lip is a distinctive whitish-yellow, lined with vibrant purple-pink markings. Measuring up to 10 cm across, 4 to 7 flowers are borne on an erect inflorescence, and their fragrance is notably very strong.
