This Bulbophyllum species native to Papua New Guinea under section macrobulbon is smaller in size compared with Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis. The plants produce striking purple blooms approximately 4 cm across. Mature plants develop elongated leaves ranging from 30–50 cm in length.
