Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis is a striking, epiphytic orchid known as one of the largest species in its genus. Native to the lowland rainforests of New Guinea, it features massive, pendulous leaves that can grow up to 1.5 meters long and leathery pseudobulbs. Its most infamous trait, however, is its bloom: clusters of fleshy, reddish-brown flowers that emit a powerful odor resembling rotting meat to attract carrion flies for pollination. While its appearance and scent are unconventional, this species is highly prized by collectors for its dramatic foliage and rarity.
