This magnificent Colombian species (often called the "King of Cattleyas") is revered for its massive 15–18 cm blooms, featuring soft pink petals that frame a voluptuous velvet-purple lip blazing with two vibrant golden-yellow 'eyes'. The flowers exhibit exceptional substance and symmetry, often borne in clusters of 2–5 per spike, and release an intense, spicy-sweet fragrance that permeates the air.
