This Southeast Asian species is distinguished by its intense, brick-red to mahogany-toned blooms. The plants produce pendulous, chain-like inflorescences where the dark, waxy flowers contrast sharply against a prominent, stark white or pale yellow column. Reaching approximately 5–7 cm in size, the blossoms are noted for their heavy substance and a subtle, musky fragrance.
